Swift Beyond Apple - Building Android Apps & Backends in Swift
Abstract
Swift is no longer an Apple-only language. It's used by both Apple and others for a variety of purposed, including Linux, Cloud, Embedded Systems and Android.
In this talk we'll look at the status of Swift on non-Apple platforms. We'll demonstrate what tools are available, what works great today and what you can expect to improve.
By the end of this talk, you'll be equipped to start your full-stack adventures in Swift.
Joannis Orlandos, Co-Founder @ Wendy Labs
Joannis Orlandos is a very technical developer with 10 years of Open Source Swift experience. He is currently the chair of the Swift Android Workgroup, and member of the Server and newly founded Build & Packaging workgroups.
Having worked on the Swift Server ecosystem since 2015, he's created many libraries and frameworks including both Vapor and Hummingbird.
These days he's using his expertise building out the Swift community towards newer platforms including Android and Embedded use cases.
Currently working as a co-founder at Wendy Labs, he's creating open source Swift tools and Operating System components to improve Swift for Embedded Linux and microcontrollers.
When Joannis isn't doing opensource, he's planning D&D sessions or playing board games.
